The first on-site workshop of the Erasmus+ project EyeCon VR/AR Lab ran from 14 to 18 April 2026 in Çanakkale, hosted by Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMU) and Çanakkale Teknopark at ÇOMU’s Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences. Prof. Dr. Zhuanghua Shi, Dr. Artyom Zinchenko and Chunyu Qu travelled from the MSense Lab to work with the Çanakkale team on site.

The week opened with a welcome reception, a lab tour and technical checks of the EEG trigger and VR systems, so that the equipment and workflows shared across the consortium were ready for training and pilot work. Two days of hands-on training followed.
EEG tutorial. Dr. Artyom Zinchenko taught a full day on EEG, from what the scalp-recorded signal is and how it is transmitted, through electrode setup and recording practice, to data quality. The three session decks cover the basis of EEG, preprocessing and ICA in EEGLAB, and ERP averaging with lateralised components.

VR tutorial. A full day on building immersive experiments: setting up a VR task, implementing it, and integrating it with the lab hardware. The lab’s Python VR workshop materials, which build an experiment from a first 3D scene to a complete paradigm with Ursina and pygame, are online for anyone who wants to follow the same path.

Joint discussions aligned the training materials, equipment setup and future pilot studies across the two sites. The programme closed with a cultural exchange and a Çanakkale tour, including Kilitbahir Castle and the Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial. The consortium now shares a technical foundation for the research-training week in Munich in September and for the pilot experiments to come.
